The Spinal Column and Golf

The Spinal Column is the centrifugal force of the body. It’s a culmination point of millions of nerve endings in the human nervous system. It’s also one of the most abused parts of the body due to our lifestyles and wrong postures that we adopt through our life cycles. A bad spinal column leads to issues in the cervical ( neck ), Thoracic ( back) and lumbar and sacral ( pelvic ) regions of the body.
A majority of the golfers have issues with the spinal column in one or more of the spines mentioned above.

Yoga as designed by BKS Iyengar keeps the spine as the centrifugal area of one’s good health and addresses each of the areas through a set of asanas designed for each segment of the spine.

A golfer needs to maintain a very strong upper body which is supported by the spine. The spine is under tremendous stress each time you swing as a golf swing is a complex motion involving the whole body; the technicalities of the swing are known as golf stroke mechanics.
Yoga strengthens the spine and the paraspinal muscles associated with the spine to ensure that the spine stays protected.

Yoga offers a whole lot of asanas to correct an injured and abused spine through various asanas that it has in its arsenal.
